The only way to have a friend is to be one: The Bo Ellis Story

Updated: Mar 8, 2023

Many of us have made friends over the years. We make friends as children, and then lose touch as we get older. Other friends we make as adults and keep in touch with as long as we are in proximity, and it is convenient to keep in touch.

As time passes, one moves away, or our busy schedules gradually pull us apart, and we begin to lose touch. Those friendships are classified as “good friends” or “close friends.” But then there's that last group of friends – those we call true friends – those we have a mutual caring for, where we understand each other's hearts, and where bonds form between us that last a lifetime. They are those for whom we have a mutual caring, and in whom we understand each other's hearts. True friends are also found in the bonds formed between us that span any distance in proximity. Where the bonds run so deep that no amount of time apart or lack of words can change the way we feel about that friendship. These are our true friends, and if one enters your life, treasure it!

True friends simply help us grow and change for the better. They are there for us in good times and the bad. They have the ability to make us laugh when all we want to do is cry. No matter how far apart we may grow from one another, as time and distance separate us, and even if death takes one of them from this world to the next, we always have the comfort of knowing that these true friendships are still there. Even if it may only be in spirit, cheering us on and wishing us the best, because that is what true friends do for one another.

During my time at Arapahoe Community Collage, (ACC), I had the pleasure of getting to know a bright young man named Bo Ellis. This year will mark the end of his time at ACC. I will miss all the laughs and social time spent getting to know Bo and learn the game of Mancala and practicing chess together. When someone is truly your true friend, they leave an imprint on your heart that will never fade…not with time or distance. Check out my first ever Faces of Arapahoe Community Collage podcast Elevate Edition, where I had the chance to sit down with Bo himself, and reminisce about his time at ACC and his feature plans. True friends, will always have a place in your heart. I will be eternally grateful to the true friends in my life, both living and deceased; thank you so much for being one of my true friends!
